AAA Air tank
AAA Air tank
High quality tanks with safety ratings.
AAA also sell fittings like pressure switches, one way check valves, bungs, pressure relieve and water release valves
At AAA we offer quality tanks in the following sizes:
- 1.5 Litre 100mm x 200mm
- 3.0 Litre 100mm x 400mm
- 4.5 Litre 100mm x 600mm
- 6.0 Litre 100mm x 800mm
Essentially these are all the same type of tube with the same ends – it is just the lengths that vary.
Being a high grade alloy they light weight and will not rust. Moisture can accumulate with compressed air and so you need a tank that will not be adversly impacted by moisture. There are 2 x ports at each end. At one end the ports are top and bottom. The other end the ports are left and right sides. This way no matter how you mount the tank (on its side, up side down, etc) there is always a port at the bottom so you can fit a water release valve or tap to expel accumulated water.
All the ports are 1/4″ BSPT – that’s the most common fitting size and even Bunnings sell air fittings on that size.
Our AAA Tanks are all tested and rated to have a safe working limit of 200psi. They are labelled as such with manufacture date and standards rating. Our engineers who are approving GVM upgrades etc on our air bag kits endorse these by approving their inclusion in our kits.
The tanks all have mounting legs attached. The 3 larger units all have the same mounting foot print. Mounting measurements are in the pictures.
The role of a tank is to speed up the inflation of tyres, air suspension or push a stronger blast of air through a horn etc. Essentially you are pre-running the compressor while you drive so once you stop to pump up tyres most of the compressor work is already done in advance. The bigger the tank the more compressed air is stored so for larger applications like tyres it’s best to have a bigger tank. If you frequently call for air like active air suspension then a larger tank will mean the system can call for more air before the compressor comes back on to refill the tank.
But a bigger tank will take a lot longer to fill and you can be talking a few minutes. You need to establish a balance of how long you want the compressor to run and for what gain. If you want to pump up tyres (or operate diff locks) then that’s only a few times a year and so you only start the compressor while on that 4WD trip and it is no issue pre-running a compressor for a longer duration on those few occassions. But if you are running active air suspension then every time you start the car the compressor has to fill the tank and so a big tank several times a day is a huge ask for any compressor. The next factor is how soon do you need the tank to reach full pressure. And again with active air suspension you need the system to be fully charged quickly so you can commence driving and not have to wait for a big tank to reach full pressure before you can drive. Can you imagine the wife running late for a school run but sitting in the drive way for 3 minutes because the active air suspension is not yet working while you big tank made for pumping tyres has to reach pressure? Trucks have this issue with air brakes too. So there is a strong argument why we have smaller tanks for air suspension and bigger tanks for pumping tyres. If you had active air suspension and also want to pump tyres then maybe have a small tank for the suspension and a bigger tank for the tyres and plumb in a tap to open the big tank for the 4WD trip. Or even a small almost silent compressor with a small tank for the air suspension and a noisier larger compressor and bigger tank for the tyres – this is a common discussion with customers and it’s most commonly accepted solution.
When considering what size to get it’s a matter of what space do you have, what’s the role of the tank (how fast do you want the application to be pumped up) and do you want the compressor to run for a long time or a short time.
These are the best quality tank we could source. It’s a shame we have to compete with price against poor quality units so we have made these as affordable as we can but please remember these are supreme quality pitched at being affordable quality.
